Jack is 18 year's old and a member of the 6th form at Ellesmere College, Leicester. Ellesmere College is a special school on the outskirts of Leicester City, with a specialism in sport.
The College has primary, secondary and post 16 departments and caters for the needs of 220 students between the ages of 7 - 19 with a wide range of educational difficulties from moderate to severe and complex needs. Some students have additional sensory, autistic or speech. language and communication needs.
Jack's passion is music and recently he took part in the College's Curve dance performance; attends weekly Rock School sessions at school where he performs with other students (leading to a whole school performance on December 8th) and wants to write his own songs.
This enthusiasm and talent has also caught the eye the head of music at Ashfield School (The Choir on TV when she taught at City of Leicester) who has expressed an interest in vocal training for Jack.
Liz Biscome, teacher, Ellesmere College said: ' Jack is a most deserving nomination for a Inspire Awards small grant. It would be a very special moment to have this kind of recognition for all his hard work and passion for music and to support him to access further training. This kind of support from Joe's Trust will help him come on leaps and bounds. He also happens to be a lovely lad! and a wonderful ambassador for Ellesmere College.'
This is what Jack has said about the way music has helped him:
"Music and singing make me feel better.
I develop emotions in Rock school which helps me in lessons.
I'm getting better at talking confidently about my emotions and the work I want to do.
I'm better at talking about feelings in Mrs. Davison's lessons.
I love singing because you can express it and show it to people.
I notice that my name is getting mentioned around school about my singing..this makes me feel good.
I feel that I am more popular at this school and have more friends here and some of that is because of my singing."
