Catriona Chung, 21, from Loughborough, competed at the Cerebral Palsy (CP) World Games in Barcelona last month, using her Inspire Award to help fund the trip.

She returned with two gold medals, for the 100m and 50m free, plus one silver for the 100m breaststroke.

Catriona was the 100^th young person to benefit from an Inspire Award. Inspire Awards are small grants given out by local charity the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT) to inspirational young people, helping them to fulfill their ambitions in sports, music, community enterprise and business.

Since the awards were set up in 2014, more than £18,000 has been handed out to deserving young people aged 13-21 from the city and county, who have used the cash to do some amazing things.

Previous recipients of Inspire Awards have competed in international sporting events across the globe, set up social enterprises, shared their skills with local communities and pursued their dreams in fields as diverse as digital arts, cycling, dance and karate.

Catriona said: "I felt very honoured to represent England, and it was such a moving experience to be on the podium when the national anthem was played. In fact, the whole week at the CP World Games was incredible and unforgettable. Thank you to JHMT's Inspire Awards for their generous support."

Catriona's dad, Paul, said: "We are so very pleased and proud of Catriona for this amazing achievement, and very grateful for the Inspire Award, which has really encouraged her and made the trip possible."

Catriona was born with cerebral palsy and also has epilepsy. She took up swimming at a young age and found it helped her with her physical, social and emotional development. The Cerebral Palsy World Games was her first competition abroad, where she competed as part of CP Team England.

The JHMT was set up in memory of Joe Humphries, who died from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) aged just 14 in October 2012, whilst out running near his family home in Rothley, Leicestershire.

The charity works tirelessly to campaign for a better understanding of sudden, unexpected cardiac death in young people. It has campaigned for compulsory CPR training in schools and defibrillators in schools, community venues and sports clubs, as well as setting up the Inspire Awards.
