As a curtain raiser to the new football league season 2013/14 stars from the world of sport and music have agreed to join forces to play in a JHMT charity football match on Sunday 28th July at Quorn FC – 2pm kick off – in memory of Joe Humphries who tragically collapsed and died from the silent killer SADS, sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, near his home in Rothley, Leics last October.
Joe's family and friends have since created the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT) to promote awareness of the condition which affects young people (12 – 35 years) and to create a new generation of young life savers who have the ELS/CPR skills to save a life.
The JHMT Charity Shield football challenge match will bring together a legion of former Leicester City Legends including Muzzy Isset, Steve Walsh, Juilan Joachim and including JHMT patron former Tigers, England and British Lions Captain Martin Johnson. Opponents are a Kasabian Select X1 squad led on this occasion by Chris Edwards, the band's bass guitarist who with support of singer/songwriter Jersey Budd are in charge of selecting a squad of players from the world of music and sport to take on the challenge.
All funds raised will go towards the Trust's campaign to provide defibrillators in all schools across Leicester and Leicestershire and training in CPR for people in sports clubs and communities.
Joe's dad Steve said; 'Joe was a mascot for the Legends when he was seven years old. He loved his sport and music so its another fitting occasion to remember an amazing son, brother and friend to so many and also to keep educating the public about the symptoms to look out for and the preventative steps required to deal with SADS which can strike anyone, anywhere and anytime'.
Gates open from 1pm. The suggested minimum donation is £3 and under 5s are free. Further details on squads will follow on this website, our facebook page and in the local press.
