Performing as Fantine in Les Miserables

I have recently successfully auditioned for a place in Jodie Steele Elites Squad and I am very grateful to JHMT for financially supporting me to be able to take up the place. The programme consists of 9 full days of training with industry professionals to set and prepare a full show of musical theatre acts that we will showcase in a performance in the West End on August 2nd 2024, in front of casting directors, choreographers, agents and drama school associates.

The first session was with Joe Parsons, the resident director for Les Miserables in the West End. I learned so much about the back story of the show, the ways that actors use their eyes to engage with the audience to create tension as well as being taught a selection of dances from the actual show. We were worked hard the aspiration was high.

This year I was invited to join a new youth drama group and when I heard that they were planning to rehearse and perform Les Miserables I jumped at the chance. Les Miserables is my favourite musical and to be a part of the performance was something that I didn't want to miss, and it didn't disappoint!

I successfully auditioned for the part of Fantine - the character who sings one of the most well known songs from Les Miserables. To perform a solo of On my Own, in character, is a memory that will stay with me. The timing of this show was perfect to be able to put into practice all that I had learned from Joe Parsons
