First taste of National level Racing

After training hard all winter, the last few months have been filled with racing! My JHMT award has supported me with entries and equipment for National Omnium and Road races which I have been equally nervous and excited about. At first I attended Oulton park, it was 3 degrees and raining. The bunch stayed together for the entire time loosing just a few out of the back. I managed to stay in that group, just hesitating at the start of the sprint. I learnt lots of lessons about choosing a good wheel that day.

In contrast, my Road national in May was Loughborough, which was significantly more technical and about 20 degrees warmer! Unfortunately, our race was stopped after 3 laps by the commissaire and having spent a great deal if energy to get into the lead group, I could not go with them again after the restart. I've never been stopped like that before, it made me reflect on how I could have used the time better, rather than letting my mind overthink and nerves take over.

Next blog I'll write about the National Omnium series which finishes at the end of July.
