Ecuador

I have just come back from my trip to Ecuador and I had the most amazing time over the 4 weeks I was there. While we were over there we stayed in three different places.

The first place was in a coastal town called Puerto Rico. When there we did lots of cultural activities like going to birthday parties and going into the local city there called Puerto Lopez. Also when I was there we went to a place called Agua Blanca where we learnt lots about the tribe that lived there many years ago. We also did lots of project work over there. Our main project was to build earthquake proof foundations for a community center they are building so that Consuelo can hold mother and baby sessions for the local community. To aid this we also cleared the area that we were building on and around to make it more appealing and family friendly. Alongside this we spend a couple of our days at the community gardens planting trees that would later be used to stop deforestation.

Our second camp was in the mountains called Kuri Kucho. Our project work here was to make the road to the school more accessible for the children as they come from a long distance to go to that school and to make guinea pig hutches over there as that is what they eat, and I tried one! In the evening we did various activities but i loved it when we learnt the Kichwa language as it helped us get more involved with the community.

Our final camp was in the Amazon Rain forest an I was lucky enough to sleep in a tent. There we saw lots of wildlife and got involved with the culture by having a cultural day where we made chocolate, bracelets and a leaf skirt. We also did two main projects over there; one was building a carpentry for the men in the community and we also made a tourist bungalow to get more money in the area. When leaving we also got to go to a sanctuary for endangered animals over there and we also got a boat trip on the amazon.

I had an amazing time when I was there and I wish I could go back right now! I would like to thank everyone who helped me get there because it was the best experience of my entire life.
