Gateley’s run the Gauntlet in aid of the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust

LOCAL law firm Gateley's is preparing to run the Gauntlet tomorrow in its fund-raising efforts for the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT).

The firm, which supports the JHMT as its chosen charity, will be among around 40 local businesses submitting a team for The Gauntlet, an It's a Knockout-style fundraising event taking place tomorrow night (6pm, June 4) at the Leicester Tigers ground.

The aim of the Gauntlet event is to bring together Leicestershire businesses, sports organisations and the public sector to raise money for a host of local children's charities and the Leicestershire branch of the Lord's Taverners, the youth cricket and disability charity.

It has been organised by the Lord's Taverners, the Leicester Tigers Foundation and website and marketing specialist Juice Creative.

It is hoped more than £60,000 will be raised for the charities in total.

Claire Herbert from Gateley's said : "We're delighted to be undertaking such a fun challenge for such a good cause and we're looking forward to battling it out with other businesses over the obstacle courses!

"The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust is a charity that means a great deal to us and we know that any funds we raise will be going to a great cause, supporting their vital work."

Steve Humphries from the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust said: "It's great news that Gateley's will be raising money for us and we're really grateful for their ongoing support of our work.

"The JHMT works tirelessely to promote awareness of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) and other sudden heart diseases that can strike anyone – such as otherwise fit and healthy young people – at any time.

"We work to provide CPR training for sports clubs, promote defibrillators in schools and community locations, and raise awareness of SADS amongst both medical staff and the wider public. We also run an awards scheme for young people called Inspire. The funds raised by the Gauntlet will help us tremendously with all of this work."

The Gauntlet's whacky challenged will all be themed around Leicestershire businesses, icons or landmarks, with a King Richard III- themed final.

The event will be compered by Leicestershire cricket legend Paul Nixon, former footballer Matt Elliott and former Leicester Tigers star George Chuter.

For a night of family fun and laughter there’s no better place than The Gauntlet Challenge at Welford Road, all in aid of helping local children’s charities. For further information about tickets go to: http://thegauntletleicester.com/tickets/
