Former England rugby and Leicester Tigers rugby captain Martin Johnson joined cricket star Sir Ian Botham for a special fundraising event in memory of Joe.
The pair visited Lord's cricket ground, in London, for a question and answer session to raise funds for Joe amongst other charities.
Martin said, "It was a fantastic night with more than 350 people attending. We hope to encourage people to learn lifesaving skills and for schools and sports venues to keep emergency equipment on site.
"No-one knows when it might be needed and it could mean the difference between life and death.
"As a parent myself, I know how important our children are to us.
"I played football with Steve the night before Joe died and the news was a huge shock.
"It came completely out of the blue, so if we can prevent another death, then that's what we hope to do."
He and Ian were joined by former team-mates and Australian adversaries for the fundraising event. It's not yet known how much was raised from the evening, which also involved a charity auction, but it is believed the final total runs into thousands. Details of this will become available soon.
