2nd Annual SADS Awareness Conference

2nd Annual SADS Awareness Conference

Date: Tue, 14th Oct 2014, 09:00 - 17:00

Venue: Leicester Tigers Rugby Stadium

Another key JHMT landmark event will take place Tuesday 14th October 2014 at Official Leicester Tigers Conference facilities, Aylestone Road when medical professions from all levels and those traveling in from beyond Leicester and Leicestershire will gather to further their knowledge on how to deal with SADS - Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

We offer a very 'warm welcome' to all the delegates attending including guest speaker Professor Charles Deakin, professor of resuscitation and pre-hospital emergency medicine at the University of Southampton NHS Trust, who will talk about how good we are in the UK at detecting SADS and reacting to cardiac arrest compared with other countries.

The hosting of this vital part of the Trust's ongoing programme (to raise awareness and reduce the incidence of sudden, cardiac death in young people, 12 - 35 years old) could not have been possible without the support of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and including the dedication of so many staff working in a volunteer capacity who have given hours of their time to bring this to fruition.

We are indebted to everyone and in particular thanks to the Conference lead Dr Ffion Davies and all of the support team behind the scenes who have already and will make another vital contribution throughout the day to make a difference.

Hosting the annual SADS conference also sends out a positive message of reassurance to all parents and carers of young people, 12 - 35 years old, that in Leicester and Leicestershire, the medical profession are taking vitally important 'collective' steps to address the issues surrounding SADS, following the loss of Joe in 2012.

After all, Its only by working closely with others and sharing knowledge both within the medical profession and those responsible for the health and well being of all children in the community that we can and must reduce the incidence of and the devastating impact of the silent killer SADS.

Leicester Tigers (@LeicesterTigers) is proud to host the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust SADS Conference – earlier in the year it helped the Trust with the official launch of the Inspire Awards small grants scheme for young people.

JHMT has also been chosen as a Tigers' charity of the year for the forthcoming season.
