Getting over injury issues leading up to a big summer

The recent lockdown has been a struggle for me. For the first time in my athletic career, I have experienced a long-term injury that has stopped me from doing what I love most - running. I began to feel knee issues in November time, as I was just gearing up for a big winter grind in hopeful preparation for a successful summer 2021 in my final junior year and final English Schools' Championships. These knee issues became more significant as time went on, which eventually led to a necessary 9 week rest period with physio advice. During this period, I had multiple MRIs to track the progress of my rehab. After about 10 weeks, I finally attempted a small run - felt so surreal after so long. From there, I have been slowly increasing the stress and duration of training - with bumps along the way of course! But now after many months, I am finally back to full training. All the dull, boring rehab exercises have paid off. As I gear up towards my first race of the season planned for mid-May, my fitness is starting to come along nicely. Not quite sharp yet, as you'd expect, but getting along nicely, while managing the risk of potential recurring injury issues. Let's see what this summer brings as I aim for a big performance at my last ever English Schools' championships!
