SUMATRA 2020

In April 2020 I am going to Sumatra for 10 days to partake in a charity expedition to help the endangered Sumatran orangutan.

Sumatran orangutans are critically endangered, with less than 15,000 surviving in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching. During the expedition, I will be given the opportunity to work with the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) as well as their partner organisations in Sumatra such as the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) and the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC).

I will be getting involved in reforestation projects by helping to replant the rainforest which has been destroyed by Palm Oil farming. I will also collect and plant new trees and clear grass in preparation for this planting. This trip is a once in a lifetime experience and a great opportunity to help save the Sumatran orangutan.

The trip to Sumatra in April 2020 costs £3000 of which I have to independently fundraise. With over half of this money already raised, and 9 months left to raise the remainder, I hope that my passion and determination as well as the generous support from the JHMT will allow me to reach my big target of £3000!
